Adjusted Deadlines for Falmouth students

What are adjusted deadlines?

An adjusted deadline will allow a student with a disability, long term health condition or learning difference additional time to meet deadlines.

Are adjusted deadlines the same as extensions?

Yes, an adjusted deadline means that an extension for a piece of work will be agreed.

Am I eligible for adjusted deadlines?

You must be currently registered with Accessibility and have an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) in place that supports Adjusted Deadlines

How long can I have?

Adjusted deadlines will normally be for 10 working days.

What if my new deadline falls on a Bank Holiday or holiday period?

If the adjusted deadline falls on a Bank Holiday or during academic holidays, the date stands and this is when you must submit. You will be expected to submit online and check arrangements for this in advance.

If you have problems with your submission and SPA (Student Programmes and Achievements) and Digital Learning Staff are not around to help, you will not be penalised. Issues will be managed afterwards on a case-by-case basis.

Can I apply for an adjusted deadline on an institutional deadline?

No. But you may be eligible to apply for an EC (Extenuating Circumstances) extension.

Can I apply for an EC following an adjusted deadline?

Yes, but your reasons for needing a further extension must fall within the EC policy.

Can I apply for adjusted deadlines on any assignment?

Adjusted deadlines only apply to summative assessments i.e. those formally recorded as part of every student’s progression.  Students can check all their formal hand-in deadlines via the My Falmouth Portal. Students will need to speak to their tutor or module leader to discuss an extension on a formative piece of work.

Can I have an adjusted deadline for a presentation or a group project?

Yes. If you require an extension for an individual presentation, you will need to speak to your course team or module leader before requesting an adjusted deadline from Accessibility via My Falmouth.

If you require an extension for a group project that cannot be assessed individually and other students will be affected by your request, then apply for an adjusted deadline via MyFalmouth and state that it is for a group project, then email SPA@falmouth.ac.uk stating your name, student number and the names and student numbers of the other members of your group.

Adjusted deadlines for group projects will only be granted under special circumstances and the Student Programmes and Achievements team will need to be consulted before agreement can be given. The other members of the group will need to be considered in any adjustments that are made.

How much notice do I need to give?

To arrange an adjusted deadline, Accessibility should have wherever possible at least 48 hours’ notice (and do not apply more than 4 weeks in advance).

If your request is made on the day of the deadline there is no guarantee that the request will be granted. If your request is made more than 4 weeks in advance, it will be declined.

How do I apply for an adjusted deadline?

To arrange an adjusted deadline, please log into My Falmouth and click on the Individual learning Plan (ILP) tile.

If you have adjusted deadlines as an adjustment in your ILP, you will see an Adjusted Deadlines Application tile. Complete the online form to request an adjusted deadline for individual assessments. This video will show you how to do this.

How will it work with the online submission link?

Where an online submission link needs to be amended with the new adjusted deadline this will be done by SPA for Falmouth & Falmouth Online Students. For Falmouth Flexible (CEG) students the extension will be arranged by the module leader.

Who do I contact?
