Use Library Search to access different formats

Both Falmouth University Library Search and Exeter Library Search can be used to find and access resources in the library collections in many different formats. The libraries have large multimedia and digital collections.

You can use accessibility tools and software to help with access to the resources you find. More information can be found on the Assistive technology pages.

Watch this video (1: 38 min) to learn about using the resource type filter in Falmouth University Library Search. You can use this to find different resource types when undertaking a search.

When using Exeter Library Search you can use the format filter on the left hand side to help you find different types of resources.

Accessing ebooks in different ways

E-books can be more accessible than print books. You can enlarge the text, change the colour and use text-to-speech to read out loud. The library provides thousands of e-books from several different platforms. Unfortunately each platform is different.

The University of Exeter has an e-books libguide listing the accessibility features of each platform. There is also information about using e-books on the Study Hub.

Recommend an e-book

If the library has a book in print that you would like as an e-book, you can ask for it using the Recommend a Book form.

Unfortunately, not all titles are available for the library to purchase as e-books.

Online Journals

The university libraries at Falmouth and Exeter provide thousands of online journals. Most journal articles can be downloaded as PDF files, so that you can reformat or use text-to speech software. Some journal databases enable you to listen to articles and download them in audio format. ( see Text to Speech for Library Resources video).

If the provider of your article doesn't facilitate this you can download a pdf to convert yourself using the text to speech options in the link above. There is more information on journals in the Studyhub Research and finding information section.

Print Journals

If the journal is only available in print, you could use the Library Reader to magnify the text or convert to an audio file.

Journal articles via inter-library loans

Journal articles that are provided by inter-library loan are encrypted and not very accessible. For help with getting an accessible version please email the library team.

Ask for help

Remember to ask the library for help if you are having problems finding or accessing resources.
